What should a QA and test analyst contractor charge in 2026? Below are the benchmarks to set your hourly rate and find contract jobs at the right rate.
Do incorporated QA and test analyst contracts pay more than T4?
Usually yes. Incorporated (Inc.) contracts pay a higher hourly rate than T4 contracts for the same role, because the agency does not pay the employer share of CPP and EI or any vacation pay, and you cover your own benefits, insurance and unpaid time off.
What is the difference between Inc. and T4?
On a T4 contract you are paid through the payroll of the agency or the client: income tax, CPP and EI are deducted and you receive a T4 slip. On an Inc. contract your own corporation invoices the agency and nothing is deducted at source. Our guide explains both, along with the personal services business (PSB) risk.
How can a QA and test analyst contractor increase their hourly rate?
By moving up in seniority, specializing in skills that are in demand such as cloud, data and cybersecurity, holding a federal security clearance (Reliability or Secret) for government work, being bilingual in English and French where it is asked, and working incorporated when you can carry your own benefits.
